Kurultai is a state institution that has been a manifestation of democracy for many centuries, allowing for effective collective decision-making. Kurultai was a council in the history of the ancient Turkic states that considered important issues of national life. Originating from the Hunnic era, this assembly served for centuries as a gathering of nobles summoned by the rulers of the Turkic-speaking states to resolve important issues in the country.
Our article tells about the modern activities of the Kurultai as a continuation of the ancient Turkic tradition of power. The republics that gained independence from the Soviet Union began to carry out various reforms in the direction of forming statehood. One of the main directions of these reforms was the revival of old values, and the creation of the Kurultai is a manifestation of the continuation of the traditions of the old Turkic states in the power of the country. The article provides a comparative analysis of the legal status, composition and functions of the National Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People's Kurultai of the Kyrgyz Republic.
