Abstract

Digital technologies today influence not only the ways information is obtained but also the very foundations of human cognition. Whereas the question of the validity of knowledge was previously associated with faith, reason, or scientific proof, algorithms are playing an increasingly significant role in the digital age. This article examines how the widespread adoption of algorithmic systems transforms the traditional understanding of the relationship between faith and reason. The authors argue that modern individuals increasingly trust information not because they are able to verify it themselves, but because it is delivered through search engines, recommendation systems, or artificial intelligence technologies. To describe this phenomenon, the concept of “algorithmic faith” is proposed and understood as a specific form of trust in the results of algorithmic data processing. The article substantiates the thesis that the algorithm is gradually evolving from a technical tool into a new mediator between human beings and knowledge. Particular attention is paid to the phenomenon of algorithmic authority. It is demonstrated that digital culture is giving rise to a new model of knowledge legitimization in which algorithmic recommendations are increasingly perceived as a basis for decision-making and for shaping perceptions of reality. The authors conclude that the principal philosophical challenge of the digital age is associated not so much with the development of artificial intelligence as with the transformation of mechanisms of trust and the redistribution of intellectual authority between humans and algorithms.
