Abstract

Over the past centuries, man has severed the unity of the material and spiritual components of his essence and has focused on the material, bodily, visible side of his being. The spiritual dimensions of a person lose their meaning, are distorted, transformed into palliative forms of culture, morality and meaningless benevolence. A spiritless person creates a spiritless world around him, which, for its part, by means of socialization and social engineering produces an even more spiritless person – thereby the process supports itself. Traditional, and in this sense positive forms of spirituality, are drying up; along with this, negative and destructive forms of spirituality are increasing. The result of humanity's movement in this direction was the global crisis of modernity. The degradation of the spiritual and moral foundations of the modern world has led to the tightening of world politics, the elimination of international law, the widespread decline of morality, the collapse of solidarity and interpersonal communication. Religion, which makes the spiritual its immediate subject, is able to produce the spiritual in a person, but the modern world does not allow religion to reveal its possibilities, displacing it from all spheres of human existence and society. However, despite the distortion and almost complete loss of spirituality, a person cannot completely lose the spiritual component of his life, since it is not just inherent in a person, it forms the ultimate foundation of his being – with this is connected the hope for the spiritual recovery of man and humanity.
