Abstract

The article discusses the main theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of relations between religion and nationalism. The relationship between these phenomena as a system of values, social power and ideological constructs is one of the least studied areas within the Social Sciences. In this regard, the models of relationships between these two phenomena, the level of their influence on each other and the factors that contribute to them are analyzed.

These methodological approaches, in turn, make it possible to assess the role of religion, including Islam, in national construction projects and processes of the post-Soviet period. In particular, the reasons for the complex relationship between nationalism and Islam in the formation of national identity and its consequences for state policy in the field of national construction and religion are analyzed.

Keywords: religion, nationalism, Nation-Building, national identity, religious identity, state, religious policy
