The article traces the process of genesis and evolution of semiotic means of culture in their totality forming a special dimension of culture – semiosphere. It is shown that the emergence of the system of sign means of culture became possible due to the transition of pre-human to the actual human, namely the activity-based way of being, which led to the formation of culture and sociality. It is noted that under the conditions of a nomadic way of life, sign activity was very limited and began to rapidly develop and improve only with the transition to a sedentary way of life. It is shown that as the development and improvement of objective activity and social relations develops, not only consciousness, but also language and other semiotic means develops and improves. Consciousness and language themselves are understood in the article as socio-cultural phenomena generated by activity. Thus, the development of activity, communication and sign means of culture are interpreted not as independent processes, but only as sides, aspects of a single process of anthropo-socio-cultural genesis.
