Abstract

The article is devoted to the consideration of the genesis and development of Islam in Azerbaijan and the disclosure of the creative influence of Islam on the culture of Azerbaijan, its socio-political life. The author shows the progressiveness of the process of the Islamization of the country, reveals its periodization, and substantiates the position that the Azerbaijani culture is closely connected with Islam.

Analyzing the socio-historical conditions and cultural factors of the development of Islam in Azerbaijan, the author reveals peculiarities of Azerbaijani culture, its synthetic nature and shows the contribution of the Azerbaijani thinkers in the development of world culture, emphasizing a special role in this process thinkers of the Middle Ages.

Islam, having long historical roots in Azerbaijan and affirming the ideas of tolerance, peacefulness, and improvement, according to the author's position, continues to play an important humanistic and consolidating role in modern Azerbaijan.
